Rush Munro’s Set to Serve Up Organic Lunches on Hastings West End

Hawke’s Bay’s iconic Rush Munro’s ice cream parlour is now serving organic lunches to get more people eating wholesome natural food on the biggest takeaway street in Hastings.

On Heretuanga St West, Bostock New Zealand’s Organic Kitchen will be dishing up lunches from Rush Munro’s, offering a point of difference to encourage better food choices, where natural, pure ingredients are used.

The 1.2km section of Heretaunga St West from Stortford Rd roundabout to Carl’s Jr is stacked with fast food options and has been attributed to feeding the region’s obesity rates.

Bostock New Zealand and Rush Munro’s owner, John Bostock says it has always been his vision to help educate others about the benefits of natural, wholesome food.

“We are bucking the trend by providing an accessible, healthy option. It’s important that people know they can enjoy a wholesome organic meal without having to fork out a fortune.”

An inEquality report released by Hawke’s Bay District Health Board in 2014 revealed one in three adults is obese – one in two Maori and one in two Pacifica, placing Hawke’s Bay above the national average.

Bostock New Zealand wants to help reduce those numbers and has invested in an organic kitchen where its 500 staff enjoy subsidised meals along with the public.

Mr Bostock says serving up the organic lunches at Rush Munro’s in Heretaunga St West, means more people can have the choice of a healthier option.

“We are very excited about opening up Rush Munro’s for lunch. We’re strongly committed to educating more people about good food choices. Unprocessed food can be just as affordable and better for you,” said Mr Bostock.

The organic meals at Rush Munro’s cost $10 for a small and $13 for a large and include restaurant style, organic free range chicken, pork, beef, lamb and fish, mixed with a variety of vegetables and salads.

“We grow a lot of the organic, premium produce which is used for all the meals. We use all natural ingredients and mainly organic where we can.”

Top chefs Lucia Gordon and Arnault Vallee work hard at the Bostock Organic Kitchen to ensure the meals are nutritious and balanced.

“It’s important to cook meals that provide plenty of substance to keep the energy levels up for a busy day at work. We use a lot of vegetables and free range meats, ” said Mrs Gordon.

The organic meals will be prepared at the Bostock Kitchen each morning and will be taken to the Rush Munro’s Parlour to be served in a purpose built area.

Rush Munro’s with its rose garden and the fishponds is a highly popular destination for locals and tourists, where people have been able to enjoy an ice cream treat.

Rush Munro’s organic lunches will be served from 11.30am to 1.30pm Monday to Friday. The first lunch will be dished up on July 21st.

The weekly menu will be updated each week on the Bostock New Zealand website.
